Vermont’s only castle went up in Proctor in 1885 and later became home to Herbert Lee Wilson, a radio engineer, and his wife; their granddaughter Denise Davine owns it now. Visitors say they have seen Sarah Johnson, an earlier owner, in her old bedroom, and her son, and Grandfather Wilson himself. A paranormal crew posted video of what it called spirits in the halls in 2020, and people have come from all over the country since: daily tours in season, and every weekend booked by overnight investigators. It shuts for the winter in early November. PUBLIC, admission charged.
