The cliff at the head of Nuuanu Valley is where Kamehameha I finished the conquest of Oahu in 1795. The defenders under Kalanikupule were driven back up the valley and trapped above the pali, and it stands as one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. The stories attached to this place are older and stranger than anything a ghost tour would invent. There is the Ghost Dog: meet it on the pali and you turn back, or you do not make the climb, and the word for what follows is kaupe, disaster. There is a moo wahine, a lizard in the shape of a beautiful woman, who walks men off the edge. And there is the rule people here still keep, which is that you never carry pork over the Pali, least of all after dark, because Pele will not have Kamapuaa cross to her side of the island in any form at all.
