A 19th-century mill owner’s house in North Adams with a genuinely terrible history behind the hauntings: in 1914 Albert Houghton’s car went off the road, killing a young family friend, and within days both Houghton and his coachman were dead, the coachman by his own hand. The building later served as a Masonic lodge and became one of the most investigated houses in New England. Access has changed with ownership over the years, so check what is currently running before you drive out.
