A three-foot sailor doll made about 1904 and given to a Key West boy named Robert Eugene Otto, who blamed it for every mishap in the house and swore it moved and spoke. The doll sits behind glass at the East Martello museum now, and the story goes you must ask Robert’s permission to photograph him or bad luck follows you home; the museum keeps a wall of apology letters from those who did not. Real doll, real letters.
