Often called the most haunted castle in Ireland. A 15th-century O’Carroll tower house in County Offaly with a genuinely grim history, a chief cut down his own brother, a priest, at the altar of the upper chapel, and when workmen cleared a hidden oubliette below it in the 1900s they reportedly took out cartloads of human bones. It is PRIVATELY owned and lived in; the owners have opened it for occasional tours and events rather than as a daily attraction.
