Ireland’s national gemstone, a green banded serpentine-marble formed some 600 million years ago in the west of Ireland, quarried in Connemara and cut into everything from jewellery to the columns of grand buildings. It is one of the oldest rocks worked as an ornamental stone in Europe. Quarries are PRIVATE and working; the visitor centre and Galway shops sell verified Irish material.
