Emily’s Bridge

Gold Brook Covered Bridge, Stowe (Lamoille County, Vermont)

Gold Brook Covered Bridge outside Stowe was built in 1844 and is the most famous haunted spot in Vermont. The story is a jilted bride named Emily who hanged herself from the rafters, and drivers report scratches on their cars, ropes brushing the roof and a woman in white. Local historians will tell you plainly there is no record of any Emily, which has not slowed the legend down at all. The bridge is small, one lane, still open to traffic and free to stand on. PUBLIC.
