Lithuania’s amber museum sits in a palace in Palanga and holds some 28,000 pieces, including the “Sun Stone,” and the beach outside is one of the classic places to hunt for amber after a storm; Lithuanian legend gives it the tale of the goddess Jurate, whose undersea amber palace was smashed by Perkunas, which is why the sea throws amber ashore. PUBLIC beach + museum, Lithuania.
