West Texas dune country, where the sand runs deep enough that a strike has somewhere to go. Rangers here started noticing strange lumps standing proud of the dune surface as the wind stripped sand away from them, and they turned out to be glass tubes: the bolt passing down through the dune until its energy was spent, melting a lining of sand into glass the whole way. They come out in a range of sizes and shapes depending on how the current branched. LOOK, DO NOT COLLECT: Texas Parks and Wildlife asks visitors to study them and leave them in the dunes. The find is the moment you recognise one, not the taking of it.
