A blinding pink-and-white salt lake in the Kenyan Rift, so saturated that a solid crust of trona (soda ash) forms and is dredged commercially, while flamingos feed on the algae in water hot enough and alkaline enough to burn. It is one of the strangest landscapes in East Africa and a working industrial site. Viewable from the causeway; the lake itself is caustic.
