The old iron mines around St. Peters are one of the great mineral localities of the East, famous among collectors for sharp magnetite, pyrite, chalcopyrite and fluorapatite crystals off the dumps. Much of the ground is preserved parkland now; collecting is limited and by permission, so read the current rules before you swing a hammer.
