Dire wolves, sabre cats, mammoths · Pleistocene, 50,000-11,000 years

Natural asphalt seeps in the middle of Los Angeles that trapped Ice Age animals for tens of thousands of years, then preserved their bones. Over three million specimens have come out, including more than 4,000 dire wolves and around 2,000 sabre-toothed cats. Excavation continues in the middle of the city and you can watch it through glass. LOOK ONLY. PUBLIC museum.
