Delaware Copper Mine

Michigan

An 1840s native-copper mine near Mohawk where you walk down into the first level on your own, lit, with copper still visible in the walls and the drill marks of the men who cut it. Above ground there are rock piles you are allowed to hunt through. It is one of the most honest underground stops in Copper Country: small, unpolished, and exactly what it was. PUBLIC self-guided tours in season.
