One of the longest charted underwater cave systems anywhere sits under 40 acres of Grand Bahama pine forest: 6.4 miles, 10.3 km, of mapped tunnel, with the park itself covering 1,937 acres. The dry part you can walk to, down wooden stairs into Ben’s Cave and Burial Mound Cave, where Lucayan remains were found. The flooded part is for trained cave divers only and is permitted. Science came out of this water too: the entire crustacean class Remipedia was first described from here in 1979, before the park existed. The Bahamas National Trust has run it since 1982.
