A CPR surveyor named it after the god of fire, and a television show did the rest
A Canadian Pacific surveyor named this place after the Roman god of fire, decades before anybody wrote a television show about a planet with the same name, and the town has been enjoying the coincidence since 1993. There is a starship on a pedestal at the edge of town, the Vulcan Starship FX6-1995-A, with writing on it in Klingon and in Vulcan. The Trek Station serves as the visitor centre and holds a large donated collection of memorabilia. In 2010 Leonard Nimoy came here and the town put up a bust and his handprint at the town centre. It is a working prairie farm town that happened to get the name, leaned all the way in, and made something out of it, which is a more Alberta story than the spaceship suggests.
