Six hundred and fifty hectares of parabolic dunes at the mouth of the Sigatoka River, 20 to 60 metres high, built by the sea and the wind over thousands of years. The dunes are also a graveyard. Excavations have pulled up pottery over 2,600 years old and one of the largest burial sites in the Pacific, and because sand moves, more pottery, stone tools and human remains keep working their way to the surface on their own. Treat anything you see as what it is and leave it where it lies. Fiji made this its first national park in July 1989 and the National Trust of Fiji runs it. It went on the UNESCO tentative list as a cultural site on 26 October 1999. About 3 km west of Sigatoka town on Viti Levu.
