Rendlesham Forest

On 26 and 28 December 1980, USAF personnel from RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk reported lights in the trees. Deputy base commander Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt wrote an official memo describing a glowing metallic-looking object with coloured lights, and on the second night went out himself with a micro-cassette recorder, taping radiation readings and lights in the sky as they happened. The recording exists and is worth hearing. The strongest sceptical case is the Orfordness lighthouse five miles east, one of the brightest in Britain at the time, whose five-second flash interval matches the rate witnesses described, and some witnesses came to agree they had been watching a beacon. Since 2005 the Forestry Commission has run a public UFO Trail through the site, with a sculpture at the end based on sketches of what was claimed.
