The Gibraltar Point Lighthouse

Toronto Islands (Ontario)

The oldest lighthouse on the Great Lakes still standing, lit in 1808 on the Toronto Islands, and the source of Toronto’s oldest ghost story: its first keeper, John Paul Radelmuller, vanished in 1815, murdered, the tale says, by soldiers over his bootleg beer, his body cut up and buried nearby. Bones were reportedly dug up by a later keeper. The lighthouse still stands on the quiet island shore.
