A whole town's worth of stories: the 1887 Chimes bathhouse (an antique store now) with its footsteps, drafts and porcelain dolls that move; a phantom train whistle between 11 and 1 where the tracks were pulled up decades ago; a rooftop janitor at the old Ambassador at 1 a.m.; and preacher Aimee Semple McPherson's 1929 castle with its hidden passages. Highway 74 out of town carries its own dark reputation. Shops and streets are public; be a customer, not a trespasser.
