Taxco silver

The white hill town of Taxco has lived on silver for five centuries, and in the 1930s the American William Spratling turned it into the silversmithing capital of the world, where whole streets are silver workshops. The mines that fed it (the Prehispanic and colonial workings under the hills) are largely closed, but Taxco silver, stamped .925 with the town hallmark, is sold everywhere here.
