The Spruce Pine pegmatite district in the Blue Ridge is one of the great mineral grounds of the East, source of aquamarine and emerald and the purest quartz on Earth (it goes into computer chips). The Emerald Village and the Museum of North Carolina Minerals sit here, with fee-dig buckets and old mine tours.
