The Sandawana mine in southern Zimbabwe is famous for tiny emeralds of extraordinary depth of colour, prized for small calibrated stones because the crystals are rarely large but intensely green. Zimbabwe also holds fine chrysoberyl and the Great Dyke’s platinum and chrome. The mine has run intermittently; buy through the trade.
