Cobalt, the silver in the streets

The silver of Cobalt was so rich when the railway cut through in 1903 that men picked native silver, wire and sheet and slabs of it, right off the rock; a nugget the size of a stove lid was pried from a lake bed. The great Cobalt silver rush built the Ontario mining industry. The old headframes and the mining museum stand; the ground is picked over, but the story is pure treasure.
