The greatest gem province on Earth. Minas Gerais (“general mines”) in Brazil produces more gem species in quantity than anywhere: the neon Paraiba tourmaline, giant aquamarine and morganite crystals, imperial topaz, emerald, kunzite, and the pegmatite pockets that fill the world’s museums. Whole towns like Governador Valadares and Teofilo Otoni live on the trade. Mines are PRIVATE; the dealer towns are the way in.
