The cave the whole world watched. In June 2018 twelve boys of a Thai football team and their coach walked into Tham Luang in Chiang Rai, monsoon rain flooded the passages behind them, and they were trapped four kilometres in for eighteen days. The rescue that followed, sedating the boys and diving them out one at a time through flooded sumps, is one of the most extraordinary operations ever attempted, and two divers died. The cave is a national park site; entry is now controlled and seasonal.
