Paro Taktsang, the Tiger’s Nest

Bhutan

A monastery built onto a sheer cliff nine hundred metres above the Paro valley in Bhutan, around the cave where Guru Rinpoche is said to have meditated for three years, three months, three weeks, three days and three hours after flying there on the back of a tigress. The hike up is long and steep and one of the great walks in the Himalaya. It is a working sacred site: dress and behave accordingly. PUBLIC (permit/guide required in Bhutan).
