Carlsbad’s cousin: Gouffre de Padirac

France

You descend 103 metres into a great open shaft in the French causse, then board a flat-bottomed boat and are poled along an underground river through galleries to a chamber whose roof is 90 metres overhead. Discovered in 1889, it is one of the most theatrical cave visits in Europe, and the region (the Dordogne/Lot) is also the world capital of Palaeolithic cave ART, Lascaux and Font-de-Gaume are near. PUBLIC, Lot, France.
