The white elephant & the Ramayana treasure

Sri Lanka’s legends run through the Ramayana: Ravana’s kingdom, Sita’s captivity at Sita Eliya, and the Adam’s Bridge shoals between India and Sri Lanka, a real chain of limestone shoals that satellite images show clearly and that tradition calls Rama’s causeway. Sri Lanka also holds the Temple of the Tooth at Kandy, guarding a relic that has legitimised rulers for centuries and drawn armies to seize it.
