The treasure of Jewell Island

The outermost island in Casco Bay has been dug over for three hundred years by people convinced that Captain Kidd, or someone like him, buried plunder here before sailing on. Nothing has ever been proven found, but the digging is documented and so are the pits. The island itself is worth the boat: it is public land now, with a beach, the concrete World War Two observation towers built to watch for U-boats in the bay, and no facilities at all. Bring water and take everything back out.
