The Ringing Rocks of Jefferson County

Montana · East of Butte, Jefferson County

A boulder pile east of Butte where the rocks ring like bells when struck with a hammer. The effect comes from the joint pattern and the way the boulders rest on one another, not from anything in the stone itself, and it stops working if you take a rock home. Bring a hammer, leave with nothing but the sound.
