The Lost Lemon Mine

British Columbia · The Crowsnest Pass, Alberta

The best-known lost mine in Alberta. The tale runs that two prospectors, Lemon and Blackjack, struck rich gold in the Crowsnest country in 1870, that Lemon killed his partner at the camp that night, and that everyone who later went looking met misfortune. It has all the marks of a story that grew in the telling, and no gold field of that kind has been found in the southern Alberta Rockies. The Crowsnest Pass is real and worth the drive anyway, with the Frank Slide right there.
