The Huldufolk and the elf stones

Iceland takes its hidden people seriously enough to route roads around them. The huldufolk are said to live inside particular boulders and outcrops, and Icelandic construction projects have genuinely been rerouted, delayed or had rocks carefully relocated after protests or a run of equipment failures, most famously on the Alftanes road.
