In 1864 couriers carrying money and jewels raised in Mexico for the Juárez cause buried the lot on a hillside by Cahuenga Pass. Nearly everyone who touched it afterward died sudden or strange, the famous curse, and in 1939 Los Angeles let treasure hunters dig beside the Hollywood Bowl with the press watching. Twenty-four days of digging, nothing. It has never been found.
