The Bennington Triangle

Between 1945 and 1950 five people disappeared around Glastenbury Mountain and were never satisfactorily accounted for: a 74-year-old hunting guide who walked ahead of his party and was gone, a Bennington College student who stepped off a trail, a man who vanished from a moving bus, and two others. Searches with hundreds of volunteers and aircraft turned up almost nothing. The writer Joseph Citro later gave the area its name. The disappearances are documented fact; the explanation is not. Glastenbury is still there, remote, steep and mostly trailless except where the Long Trail crosses it, and it deserves respect rather than bravado.
