The Alaska Triangle

A vast wedge of Alaska between Anchorage, Juneau and Barrow has one of the highest rates of unexplained disappearances anywhere: thousands of people have simply vanished here over the decades, most famously a 1972 plane carrying two U.S. congressmen that was never found despite the largest search in history. The honest explanation is the ground itself, some of the most enormous, roadless, crevassed, storm-wracked wilderness on the planet, where a bush plane or a hiker can be lost forever with no foul play at all. That does not make it any less eerie.
