The 1733 Spanish Fleet of the Keys

Florida · The upper Florida Keys, Key Largo to Islamorada (FL)

A second Spanish treasure fleet, homeward bound in 1733, was caught by a hurricane and strewn along the upper Keys from Key Largo to Islamorada. The Spanish salvaged much of it at the time, but not all, and the scattered wrecks are dive sites now, several of them Florida underwater archaeological preserves you can visit with a mask and fins. The San Pedro off Indian Key is the famous one.
