The Ruggles brothers' strongbox

Documented folklore from the Club 49 map, told straight and sourced.

The story

On May 14, 1892, John and Charles Ruggles ambushed the Redding-to-Weaverville Wells Fargo stage for a strongbox of about $5,000 in gold coin. John hid the box in Middle Creek, reportedly with a float to mark it, then was lynched in Redding before he would say where. The gold was never recovered.

The ground it haunts

Middle Creek, about six miles west of Redding (Shasta County). Source: Legends of America; KRCR. The Club 49 map pins this legend at its documented country, beside the real mines, active claims, land status and modeled honey holes of the same ground. Open the free map and go stand in the story.
