The Great Serpent Mound

Documented folklore from the Club 49 map, told straight and sourced.

The story

The largest serpent effigy in the world uncoils along a ridge in southern Ohio, a quarter-mile of earthen snake with its jaws open around an oval, built by Native people on the rim of a very ancient meteorite crater (the strange broken geology may be why they chose the spot). Its coils align with the sun at the solstices. Who built it and exactly when is still debated. It is a real, awe-inspiring place you can walk beside, and a candidate for World Heritage listing. PUBLIC, Adams County, Ohio.

The ground it haunts

Peebles (Adams County, Ohio). Source: The largest effigy mound on Earth, on an ancient impact crater. The Club 49 map pins this legend at its documented country, beside the real mines, active claims, land status and modeled honey holes of the same ground. Open the free map and go stand in the story.
