Bonbibi of the Sundarbans

Documented folklore from the Club 49 map, told straight and sourced.

The story

In the tiger-haunted mangrove forest of the Sundarbans in Bangladesh and West Bengal, the honey collectors and woodcutters who go into the swamp pray to Bonbibi, the lady of the forest, for protection from Dakkhin Rai, who takes the form of a tiger. What makes it remarkable is that Hindus and Muslims worship her together at the same shrines, a shared faith born of shared danger, because the tigers here really do kill people every year. Living folklore in genuinely lethal country.

The ground it haunts
